Violence Within the Ranks

I was reading about violence and fun things like that this weekend and came across a statistic that about 1 out of every 3 women will be assaulted during their military career.  (look to the friend to the left of you, look at the friend to the right of you...one of you will be assaulted.)  That number seems to be pretty high, and supposedly that number was released by the Pentagon in 2009.  So, god knows what crimes are NOT accounted for.  I will have to look into the numbers further later.

With this new information I was curious what has been done to correct the situation...I asked a female military member if they were given any extra training on self-defense and avoidance.  I was told that they were given a run-down on situations to avoid, but that was about it.  I further explained with i was asking about it, and she explained that the females have a once a month "wellness" meeting with a female officer.  While I do think that is a great start, the US military has unspeakable resources...is this the best they can do?

I also then thought about how many things most likely go unreported and asked a male military member if they had ever witnessed a violent act and not reported it.  The answer was "Nope".  I then asked if they would tell me if they did...no response....Then I asked if they had heard any first or second hand stories about unreported violence...no response.  Without being ridiculously obvious, SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

This is today's motto I think.  We all know that you can't buy love, and money doesn't make you happy.  But isn't there something to be said for the people that love you taking care of you when you need them.  At what point DOES money play a part?  Greed can blind and cripple a person emotionally.  It can also be difficult to be your usual happy-go-lucky self if there is a huge financial situation looming over your head.  I have said many times that you should never loan money that you don't have to give.  Is it wrong to expect a little bit of give and reciprocation from someone that loves you?  If they fail you repeatedly, does it mean they don't really care or just don't understand?  Is compassion still the right path when someone else has been given the power to damage your life and your children's?  Where should one draw the line?  It's so hard to just "let go and let God" when you have other people to worry about in your life.  The bitterness is, not ironically, very hard to swallow.

Creative Leekingz and Organization

So, today is the day before New Year's Eve.  I am currently dealing with an array of emotion baggage and as usual it is pouring into my material world. I can barely walk through my room and have no motivation to correct the situation as I am very often too emotionally drained to deal.  So my promise to myself this weekend is to not only clean my room, but move all excess items to my storage unit.  I have a tiny room, do I really need a bookcase full of trinkets or 2 boxes filled with VHS cassettes in there?  Then, with this new found space, I will acquire a new sewing table and continue to try and pursue my creative outlet.  I did the majority of my sewing this last month on Roomie's couch with my machine balanced on a small storage box containing porn and sex toys. While some may find this part of my random and quirky charm...it is not exactly convenient.  I haven't sewed anything in years and now that I have a new machine and 2 completed projects under my belt...I will continue to move forward with my work this year in a more suitable work space.  I hope...
